RV Bedroom Renovation

Why did I need to renovate my RV bedroom?

I didn’t.

I follow an amazing account on Instagram, @rvfixerupper, and she usually renovates older 5th wheels. This time, however, she happened to renovate my exact camper and I fell in love with it.

With everything going on in our lives right now, I really didn’t have the budget to do it like she did. Nor was I interested in moving all our furniture and painting the whole camper. So I started small…our bedroom…and took it from there.

Here’s where I started…

Bedroom wall and sliding bedroom door

This is the wall that is next to the bed. (Chris’ side…so he can walk in and FLOP on the bed)

I knew I wanted to paint the room, but I didn’t want to commit to painting the ceiling too. So I matched the ceiling to the paint color. I used Behr low odor 7050 “Off White – 73”. I used a foam roller and my FAVORITE edger brush (I’m obsessed with this one by Wooster. I use a steady hand and no tape!) I painted all walls and the door the same off white color so that it looked like this…

My inspiration was a real barn door. She used wood planks and spacers and nails. I did a little DIY. I measured 6 inches across and marked it with a level. Then I used a Sharpie Paint Marker (you MUST use the paint one. The other won’t work!) and drew lines down the door. I didn’t mind if there were some sections that were lighter than others…it added to the “charm” of it all! For the door handle, I got a one inch wooden dowel, cut it to size, metal 3/4 inch clamps, wood screws, and spray painted them all black. So, I got this…

I added a photo I took at sunset in Maine while we were camping at the Bar Harbor KOA Oceanside…one of our favorites!) and added a frame that I already had at home.

On to the rest of the room…

The drawers were a plain brown with silver handles.

Original dresser

I took off the hardware and painted the front square of the dresser Behr Carbon N520-7.

My inspiration handles were a little out of my budget. I looked for other 3-3/4 inch handles and I found these. I taped off small sections where I wanted them gold and spray painted them.

I put the handles on the drawers and got this!

New drawer pulls

I took off the old, heavy valances off the windows and was going to just leave the accordion blinds. I wanted something more so I found napkins and a table runner at Target in the Hearth and Home on clearance to do some more DIY. (I can’t link them because they don’t offer them anymore, but here’s one that’s similar, just blue instead of gray, gold, and blush like mine.)

I cut the napkins in half and sewed a two-inch pocket for the existing valance hardware.

For the main window, I played with the runner and tucked it in on both sides and got this…no sewing required!

I added a little wall decoration that I made with wood beads, a dowel, and silk eucalyptus. I’ll have these up in my Etsy shop in a week or so.

The whole project took me about 2 days. The longest part was waiting for the paint to dry! It was fun and it made me realize that RV Reno wasn’t the daunting task I thought it would be.

So how do you like the bedroom? We love it and it feels a little more like home to us.
